Todd Oldham’s Modern Art For Target

Yet another Target collaboration this time with designer Todd Oldham for a line of kid’s art supplies.  What product category has Target not collaborated on?  Designer canned food?  No matter what they do, Target does seem to hit the spot (pun intended) with their designer collaborations.  The Kid Made Modern line includes colorful duct tape, a jewelry-making kit and oversized crayons among other things.  The line was inspired by Mr. Oldham’s 2009 book Kid Made Modern, a DIY guide for children’s arts and craft ideas.  To see Mr. Oldham show off the collection visit this Target video.  All items are priced under $20 and are sure to keep your kids busy for at least one afternoon when school’s out this summer.  Kid Made Modern will be available at Target stores and online May 20.

Book Review: Fifty Shades Of Grey

Cover: Fifty Shades Of Grey

Recently I was browsing the book aisle at Target looking for a new read that would provide a needed distraction from a personal issue.  I wanted something fun, easy and engaging.  I certainly found it.  Not only is Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James a total guilty pleasure it is a hot-button, somewhat controversial book making it all the more fun to read.  The book is classified as “erotic fiction” if this gives you an idea of why.  In Fifty Shades… Anastasia Steele is a recent college grad who has limited experience with men.  When she gets involved with young, handsome billionaire Christian Grey she gains experience – fast.  Christian is a control freak, in and outside of the bedroom, and is unable to resist the innocent but witty and intelligent Anastasia.  While his command over Anastasia and her willingness to give in is frustrating at times, the way his looks and magnetism is described makes you understand why.  Even at over 500 pages the story moves at a quick pace and is sure to keep you turning the pages wondering what wild thing Christian will have Anastasia do next.  Pick up Fifty Shades of Grey for your beach read this summer but maybe use a book cover if you want to avoid any stares of those in the know!

Bethenny Frankel’s Next Step

Skinnygirl Beauty

I started watching Bethenny Frankel when she was a mere non-housewife on Bravo’s reality show The Real Housewives of New York. I liked her from the start.  Brash, hilarious and honest I felt she brought a sense of “reality” to the show.  Since then Bethenny has moved on – big time – and it is fun to watch her on her own series Bethenny Ever After and see what she comes up with next for her expanding Skinnygirl empire.

Skinnygirl Margarita

In addition to Skinnygirl Cocktails, Shapewear, and Nutrition she has recently entered the beauty world with a line of skincare for face and body sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.  It makes sense for this next step with her brand but there are other product categories I’d like to see by her (althoughI’m certain they are on their way!). With Bethenny’s brand emphasizing fitness and healthy, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her go into activewear or a line of whole food products.  Until then I’ll be happy to sip my Skinnygirl Margarita while reading Skinnydipping and look forward to seeing what this driven woman does next!
