Target’s New Design Hero: Nate Berkus

Target has tapped into the home design talents of Nate Berkus, who on October 21st unveiled a collection of over 100 pieces in home furnishings and accessories exclusively for the mass-market retailer.  Nate was first disovered by Oprah when she picked him up for home segments with “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”  From there his career took off with his own show “The Nate Berkus Show,” books and overall celebrity within the burgeoning world of home improvement and interior design.  In a recent New York Times article Nate says he is a fan of the mass market and enjoys finding something beautiful at a great price.  Me too!  With my nesting instincts kicking in for baby #2 I’m looking forward to shopping the latest collection at my local Target.

Todd Oldham’s Modern Art For Target

Yet another Target collaboration this time with designer Todd Oldham for a line of kid’s art supplies.  What product category has Target not collaborated on?  Designer canned food?  No matter what they do, Target does seem to hit the spot (pun intended) with their designer collaborations.  The Kid Made Modern line includes colorful duct tape, a jewelry-making kit and oversized crayons among other things.  The line was inspired by Mr. Oldham’s 2009 book Kid Made Modern, a DIY guide for children’s arts and craft ideas.  To see Mr. Oldham show off the collection visit this Target video.  All items are priced under $20 and are sure to keep your kids busy for at least one afternoon when school’s out this summer.  Kid Made Modern will be available at Target stores and online May 20.

Target Goes Indie With Boutique Pop-Ups

 

A few years back Target did a very smart thing.  It began partnering with high-end fashion designers making chic cheap for the mainstream shoppers of America.  Now the mass retailer is at it again but instead of joining forces with designers they are doing so with boutiques.  The mega store has pinpointed specialty shops across the U.S. that are known for their curated, focused merchandise and is bringing that buyer’s eye to the Target customer.  This new concept is called The Shops at Target and it will offer over 400 items among the five independent retailers it has hand picked for this project including The Webster (fashion),The Candy Store (sweets), Cos Bar (cosmetics), Polka Dog Bakery (dogs) and Privet House (home goods).  Genius!  For a little taster check out the dress and accessories below by The Webster for Target collection.  The mayhem begins on May 6th with a launch in stores and online.
