Spring For Floral Jeans

Floral prints are to be expected for spring fashion, but what is a little new this year is the pattern popping up on denim pants.  I love jeans.  No, let me rephrase.  I LOVE jeans.  Even before moving to denim-happy California I always loved wearing the blues (not singing them thankfully!).  My jean selection expanded quite a bit after moving to San Diego and embracing the casual chic style best displayed by West Coast fashionistas.  Also going from the more formal South, to professional New York and then to casual California, jeans became more of a wardrobe staple since they are acceptable in just about any office position here on the left coast.  A few seasons back I dabbled in colored jeans and now I’m loving the floral.  Particularly the Mandy Floral Jeans by Citizens of Humanity.  I purchased these from Anthropologie recently and have worn them so much my husband is begging me to give them a break.  But I just love them and since its probably a fleeting trend I want to get my money’s worth! Mixing them with a loose chambray blouse or crochet cream sweater has made this my favorite look so far for Spring 2012.

Prudish Fashion

I feel the fashion trend is moving away from the T&A showcase we saw in the early to mid ‘00s (thank you, Britney Spears) and becoming a bit more, dare I say, prudish?  Everyone from Louis Vuitton to H&M are selling pretty young things collared blouses, reminiscent of a more puritan time.  “Midis” or mid-calf length skirts began taking over the ever changing hemline trend about a year or so ago.  Covering up seems to be bragging a lot more than showing off these days.  It shows restraint.  Imagination.  Coyness.  Adele is riding this trend as best as any celebrity I see with her full figure on display in long sleeve, high-necked gowns.   Case in point, she picked up her six Grammy awards recently while wearing not a costume that shoots fire out of her boobs (and thank you, Katy Perry) but of an understated black gown by Armani Prive.  As a somewhat conservative Southern gal who’s never been one to show much skin I welcome the trend to dress a little more modestly, why there’s nothing wrong with leaving something to the imagination…
